In addition, students will use their collection of Burning Issues sources to write an extended research paper. Medium-scoring essays complete the tasks of the essay topic well - they show some insight but usually with less precision and clarity than high-scoring essays. Graded philosophical chairs and Socratic seminars will take place each quarter.
Students will end the quarter with a diagnostic multiple choice and Free Response essay on the AP released question from The Great Influenza by John. Close reading strategies using The Compact Reader, Chapter 1, and Barbara Lazear Aschers The Box Man. Formal Essays: Formal essays will involve the entire writing process: invention or brainstorming, multiple drafts, peer response, instructor feedback, proofreading and editing and reflection. Students will read and discuss Aristotles definition of tragedy to discover the ways in which the Crucible conforms and departs from this definition. Students will score their own essay and then compare to teacher assessment. Citation Students will read Rules of Citing: Footnotes and Bibliography from The Modern Researcher Using samples of footnotes from the multiple choice questions students will take quizzes identifying the parts of a footnote. We will complete 1 2 formal essays per quarter.
